Packaging Recovery Notes

 

 

A Packaging Recovery Note (PRN) and its export equivalent (a PERN) are a type of voucher signifying that one tonne of packaging waste has been reprocessed.

Obligated companies are required to purchase PRNs as evidence that their Producer Responsibility (Packaging Waste) Obligation has been met (similar to carbon offsetting).

PRNs are the only form of evidence accepted by the Environment Agency that the recycling or recovery of packaging has taken place and they are purchased on Members' behalf by Kite's Compliance Scheme.
